What is Melanotan 2?
Melanotan 2 (Melanotan II, MT-2) is a synthetic peptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It was developed to study the mechanisms of pigmentation and UV protection of the skin.
MT-2 is a non-selective melanocortin agonist that activates several receptors (MC1R–MC5R), which explains its broad spectrum of effects.
How it works
It activates the MC1R receptor in melanocytes, stimulating the synthesis of eumelanin, the dark pigment responsible for tanning and natural UV protection.
It activates the MC3R and MC4R receptors in the brain, which may affect appetite (decrease) and libido (increase).
The effect on pigmentation occurs with no or minimal UV exposure, meaning that the skin darkens "from within".
How it is administered
Subcutaneously, 3 times a week. Loading dose: 10–15 units per injection. Maintenance: 5–10 units, 1–2 times a week.
10 mg vial: 300 units × 33 µg. 30 units = 1 mg.
An initial tan appears within 5–7 days. Reduce the dose for maintenance.
